I have severe anxiety when talking to people. My dad said "whatever mental obstacles you have, just get rid of it." How do I do that?

Anxiety is something that you do, and it's like worrying: to do it, you need to think.

So, how not to do that? Well, first you have to realize that “not doing” can't be done, because it's not an act, it's a non-act, just like you can't stop smoking, you can only smoke.

So when you understand that trying to relax is a trap because it can never be achieved, then you reach the point of “don't care”. And then you have it! Alan Watts explained it in great details on many lectures easy to find on YouTube.

There is no obstacle, so there is nothing to get rid of. Your body changed, your mind is changing, it's perfectly normal that it's harder now to talk to people, what you have now is: too much feedback. Consciousness is a feedback mechanism, and if you suffer now it will adjust soon. So don't worry!

You, as a consciousness, can't do anything about it (about consciousness), just like fire can't burn itself, or water can't wet itself. But the real you may not be that voice in your head… have you ever thought about that? ;-)
