Why is light reflected? How can it be explained with simple words? I don't ask how, but why.

Light, is a wave. And like any wave, it carries energy. And this energy can move things around.

So when a wave interacts with something, his energy either get absorbed by it (if the different sizes match, like microwave and the water molecule),

either it is not absorbed, and in that case it’s reflected. Because what else could it do?
